The Next 6 months for Canvas…

Where are we headed…as a church I mean?

Well, we have alot to do as a staff…right now I feel pressed that we need to go into this new school year keeping the mission out in front of us in 2 ways:

1. by becoming a church that would be greatly missed if we were suddenly absent.  We are NOT going to become comfortable with just coming on Sunday morning and having a great experience (which we do already).

2. by becoming THE place to go on Sunday morning if you are a family living in Savannah.  We want to strengthen families and help parents raise children who become serious followers of Christ!

I told the staff last night that we are going to be working hard on those two things over the next 6 months in addition to at least maintaining the other efforts we have going…like having a jam up Sunday morning experience and continually working to get people to serve and be involved in a Journey Group.

The Action side of the church has lots of wheels turning right now and will be delving into some new territory after the Summer.  I’m really excited about that!

Keep watching and keep praying for us!

Weekend Update

Saturday we had a great time at the fireworks on Riverstreet.  Several of our folks braved the crowd for what I think was one of the best firework shows I have ever seen.  The best part is we were right there under them.  You could feel the thump as they exploded.  It was very cool!

Sunday proved again that people believe in what is going on.  We had a good crowd and we had several new faces.  These were’t just people showing up because they saw a sign.  These were people that were brought there…on a holiday weekend.  Thats AWESOME!  Keep inviting you guys!

We are still going through the book of James.  God is using these messages to help people put their faith to work in tangeble ways and its great to see everyone reacting on Facebook to what is going on at Canvas.

Those are my thoughts today…

What drives you?

I have noticed that the way you tell who is passionate about what…  If someone stays on top of things or is very proactive in a specific area, then its a good sign that they are passsionate in that area.  Not always, but for the most part this is true.

This is really helping me determine if the right people are in the right seats on the train.  The train is big and there are many seats, but certain seats require the right person.  I like the train analogy, because Canvas is a train with several cars…Elevate, Journey, Action, Admin, etc.  Each train car has someone tend that particular car and that seat is specific.  Those people have to be passionate about that car and the other people riding in it.  There are other seats too, some are general seating, but some are specific with decending responsibility.

When people are passionate about an area of the church or ministry, they rise to the top and are noticed becuase God has given them a calling and desire to fill a seat on the train.  What drives you in the church…on Sunday…during the week?  God may be leading you into something.

Great Day at Canvas

We had a great morning at Canvas today.  The crowd was up (several folks from ATL in to visit) and I felt like we did the best job of communicating the message today that we ever have.  The band totally rocked face and we even got some great feedback on that.

I’m telling you, we’ve got the best worship band in Savannah and Canvas is rolling through the summer like a hot knife through butter.  I think in the fall things are going to be off the chain here!  Keep investing and inviting!

We need to spread the word that Canvas Church is in town to stay and we are here to make Jesus famous and expand the Kingdom!
